The flask can be closed with a PBT cap or membrane cap ( gas exchange possible) . The membrane cap is ideal for autoclaving processes because the membrane permits pressure equalisation and tight sealing. Hence the risk of contamination is greatly reduced. Ingress of liquids or solids is prevented and the bottle contents remain sterile. When used for cultivation, the membrane also hinders gas exchange. The gas exchange is more definable and reproducible than if sealing is carried out with a cotton wadding or similar.
